I decided that I should enter the “Dirty Bass Composition Competition” over at the boyinaband forum (which can be found
here). I therefore took some time to write a new track which I will link in the next post. The rules of the competition state that in order for your entry to be valid, you have to do a tutorial for the bass patch(es) you make. I thought this was perfect as this is what I am doing here anyway.
I decided to use Massive from Native Instruments again as it is notoriously good for making huge basses. The tune I made,
“OHH” comprises of 4 main basses in the drop which are fairly similar in terms of the oscillators used but the modulation of various parameters within these basses means that there is quite a variety in sound.
The video that explains how to make the first bass can be found below. At the end of this video is an annotation which will lead you to the next bass and so on for the 4 basses.
I hope you enjoy these tutorials - they were a lot of fun to make. If you have any requests for patches that you would like me to attempt to recreate then let me know in the comments below and I will be happy to give them a shot.
